The Challenges

About 85% of water consumption in Greece is used for irrigation.

Irrigation agencies are required to manage limited water resources amidst energy crisis and climate change. They have to provide sufficient irrigation water, at an affordable price, with limited costs and, at the same time, protect the environment.

An effective response to these challenges requires:

  • A digital impression of the irrigation network and equipment for better management

  • Minimized operating costs due to electrical power consumption

  • Control on the water quantity provided, according to the crop type

  • Increase awareness of cultivators to reduce water overconsumption

  • Increase awareness of cultivators to reduce water overconsumption

  • Detection and reduction of water loss and non-revenue water (NRW)

  • Detailed information on financial data to resolve any structural weaknesses.

These actions allow irrigation services to become sustainable – both economically and environmentally.

Cost Cost Simultaneously, 80% of countries report insufficient financing to meet national WASH targets and over 50% of countries say that household tariffs are insufficient to recover operation and maintenance costs, leading to an increase in disrepair and service failure [Source].
Quality As for drinking water quality, today only 71% of the global population (5.2 billion people) use a safely managed drinking water service; that is, one located on premises, available when needed and free from contamination and 1 out of 3 of these people (1.9 billion people) live in rural areas [Source].
Scarcity By 2025, 1.8 billion people are expected to be living in countries or regions with absolute water scarcity, and two-thirds of the world population could be under water stress conditions according to UNESCO [Source].

The Solution

At Nimbltech we respond to these challenges by providing Irrigain, a complete software solution for Irrigation Management.

Irrigain allows you to integrate irrigation activities with services to farmers. It provides all the tools to manage both day-to-day and emergency tasks, with increased efficiency and resource savings.

It allows farmers to use irrigation services in a controlled way, based on the needs of their crops, for an optimal resource utilization and reduction of water waste. Value-added services for farmers provide a transition path to precision (smart) agriculture to save water and energy.

Irrigain can also be combined with automated systems of irrigation control, while it fully utilizes existing equipment control and data acquisition systems (SCADA), offering an excellent experience on supervising, collecting information, managing water resources and operating existing facilities.

Irrigain is 100% web-based, and its user interface is both easy to learn and use.

Irrigain Software Applications

The Map Dashboard software provides a unified, comprehensive view of the irrigation network and equipment on a digital map. It shows pumping and water intake points, as well as events, faults, notifications, and alerts related to the agency’s operations.

The Energy Simulation and Monitoring software application minimizes electricity consumption for pumping the required amount of water. By utilizing equipment operation data and determining the required water quantity, and specific parameters, the optimal operation mode of the equipment is automatically calculated, thereby reducing electricity consumption cost, a critical expense for the agency.

The Hydraulic Simulation software application models and predict water flow and the operation of the hydraulic network. The solution to hydraulic issues is based on telemetry measurements, combined with the digital spatial data of the irrigation network.

The Equipment Repair & Maintenance software application enables integrated management of equipment failures and maintenance. The primary goal of the software is to automate the maintenance process of the entire irrigation network at regular intervals.

The Farmer Service Portal aims to provide top-tier support to farmers through an online service portal. Farmers can view details of their cultivated land and the types of crops in each plot to determine irrigation water needs. They can view and pay their bills, submit and manage connection or disconnection requests to the irrigation network, as well as for equipment fault repairs. Data from these requests are sent to the irrigation agency for action management.

The Precision Farming software application allows farmers to optimize the performance of their crops. It enables them to manage their irrigation needs as well as supplementary tasks required for their crops, such as plowing, sowing, fertilizing, weed control, spraying, pruning, harvesting, etc., and schedule these tasks based on meteorological data and local conditions.

The Water Balance software application allows monitoring quantitative data on water production and consumption, increasing efficiency by detecting leaks, water theft, and other problems, thus preserving valuable water resources.

The Water Quality Assurance software application aims to ensure the quality of water resources by allowing the agency to monitor the measurements of critical water quality parameters, either automatically via specialized equipment or through laboratory water sample analysis.

The Irrigation Request Management software application supports the comprehensive and unified electronic management of irrigation requests (or termination of irrigation) by the agency’s users, with notifications to the farmer at each stage of processing their request.

The Telemetry Insight software application allows irrigation agencies to collect all telemetry data from different sources and communication networks, process them centrally, and create reports that support decision-making.

The Irrigation Cycle Scheduling software application enables automated irrigation scheduling, with parameters set by the agency for each pumping point, based on data from the crop list. The user can define various parameters, such as the minimum and maximum number of acres per water intake and the water intake flow coefficient.

The Automations Control software allows full remote control of irrigation automation panels. The software offers automatic irrigation cycle scheduling, remote pump control with or without inverters (VSD), operational status monitoring of the automation panel and electromechanical equipment, and immediate notifications in the event of potential failures or malfunctions.

The Inverter Management software application provides integrated control, monitoring and management of pump inverters (VSD), focusing on optimizing performance, reducing downtime, and ensuring energy efficiency.

The Metering software is a mobile application for smartphones that enables quick measurement of water consumption by photographing and instantly digitizing each water meter reading.

The Billing software application allows the agency to apply its pricing policy for irrigation water transparently, according to its needs, making it easier for farmers to have a clear and immediate understanding of their costs while also raising awareness of water conservation.
